Size and weight are big decision factors when you are trying to find the ideal camera for your needs.
In this section, we are going to illustrate the Nikon Df and Canon ELPH 500 HS side-by-side from the front, back and top in their relative dimensions. Nikon Df has external dimensions of 144 x 110 x 67 mm (5.67 x 4.33 x 2.64″) and weighs 760 g (1.68 lb / 26.81 oz) (including batteries). Canon ELPH 500 HS has external dimensions of 101 x 56 x 25 mm (3.98 x 2.2 x 0.98″) and weighs 185 g (0.41 lb / 6.53 oz) (including batteries).
Below you can see the front-view size comparison of the Nikon Df and the Canon ELPH 500 HS. Canon ELPH 500 HS is clearly the smaller of the two cameras. Its body is 43mm narrower, 54mm shorter and 42mm thinner than Nikon Df. As you can tell, actually this is not a fair size comparison since Canon ELPH 500 HS has a built-in lens but Nikon Df doesn't. Once you put a lens on Df, its thickness will increase significantly.
Here is the back view size comparison of the Nikon Df and Canon ELPH 500 HS.
Now lets look at the top view comparison of Nikon Df and Canon ELPH 500 HS.
Weight is another important factor, especially when deciding on a camera that you want to carry with you all day.
Canon ELPH 500 HS is significantly lighter (575g ) than the Nikon Df which may become a big advantage especially on long walking trips.
Again, this comparison may not be very useful in real life as we are comparing the weight of a camera with a built-in lens to the body-only weight of an interchangeable lens camera. Once you put a lens on Df, the total kit will weigh much higher.
Weather Sealing
With its weather-sealed body, we believe that the Df has a big advantage over the ELPH 500 HS which doesn't provide any kind of environmental sealing.
LCD Screen Size and Features
Nikon Df and Canon ELPH 500 HS's LCD screens have the same diagonal size of 3.20 inches.
Unfortunately, both cameras has fixed screens so they don't tilt or flip in directions.
