Both Canon M10 and Nikon 1 V3 have 18.0 MP resolution sensors but Canon M10's sensor is APS-C (22.3 x 14.9 mm ) and Nikon 1 V3's sensor is 1' (13.2 x 8.8 mm ).
Since Canon M10's has a larger sensor area with the same resolution, this means that it also has a larger pixel area hence better light collecting capacity for a given aperture compared to Nikon 1 V3.
